Easy Shell Wreath

Updated: Nov 7, 2018

Do you have a bunch of shells laying around that you do not know what to do with? So did I! I decided to do something about it and create a masterpiece for my house that will instill lasting memories of my glorious vacation! #beachlife

There are only a few items that you need for this craft to create it similarly to mine, although I encourage you to put your own personal touch on it.

What you will need:

  • Embroidery hoop

  • Styrofoam wreath

  • Clothespins

  • Spray paint (gold)

  • Blue & white acrylic paints

  • Paint brush

  • Twine

  • Gift tags

  • Shells

  • Hot glue

  • Sand

Gather all of your materials and lay them out in front of you. I used about 50 shells to create this wreath.

Let's get started...

Prep work

The first thing I did in creating the wreath is paint the clothespins. I chose to do a variegated color of blue, just to add a bit of depth. I took two blue paints, added white, and went to town. After they were dry, I added glue and sprinkled sand over the bottom half of the clothespins. Then, I spray painted the embroidery hoops because these take the longest to dry. While spraying the hoops, I also painted a few shells in the gold paint for some pizzazz! I then began wrapping my Styrofoam wreath in twine.

On to the assembly

Once everything was dry, I attached the clothespins to the embroidery hoops. I then took twine and tied all the hoops and the foam wreath together. (I did this for extra security because glue would not be able to hold the weight once finished).

Now, the fun part...Oh, wait! It's all fun!

I took all of my shells and arranged them on my wreath. I first put them down to place them, and then used a hot glue gun to attach them to the rings. Next, I took the gold shells and found a spot for them as well. It was really hard to decide if I wanted the gold shells to line the twine-wrapped foam or to be placed strategically throughout the wreath. For the final step, I decorated gift tags, strung them with twine, then glued it in place.

Final thoughts

I hope you find this elaborate wreath to be fun and easy. This was a very inexpensive craft with a lot of room for personal touches. Try placing your gift tags at the bottom or arranging your painted shells with your regular shells. There are many ways to get creative!

Hope you enjoy your #beachwreath!
