Valentine's Day Footprint Craft

With Valentines day right around the corner, you know I had to do something special with Charley. I gathered my gal pals up and we all used our creativity to put their toes to the test. Here are three crafts that you can do with your kids this Valentine’s day to remember just how small their feet are and how big your heart is.

The pictures above are in order of the instructions below

Supplies needed..

  • Canvas

  • Paint (I used white, gold, and red)

  • Brushes (large and small)

  • Paint marker (optional)

Getting started..

"Horizontal Love"

  1. Paint the canvas with your base color, I mixed red and white

  2. Let the first coat dry completely; paint another layer if desired (I used gold)

  3. Put a light coat of paint onto the child’s foot (I would practice a few times on a separate paper)

  4. In your mind break up the canvas into four sections

5. On the third section stamp the left foot with the toes pointing towards the top left corner

  1. 6. Put another light coat of paint on the right foot and connect the heels on the canvas and stamp the foot in place, toes pointing to the right top corner of the canvas

Writing letters..

  1. Practice the letters on a separate paper to make sure it turns out as desired

  2. Swiftly write paint the letters onto the canvas (you can use a pencil to trace)

  3. Fill in the letters with more paint using a thin brush

  4. I drew a heart at the end of the letter "e" and filled it in with red

  5. For the second project tape is the only additional item needed

Getting Started

"Checkered Love" (above)

  1. With your eyes try to break up the canvas into four sections

  2. Tape the top left corner and bottom right corner off (these will be the white sections)

  3. Paint the top right and bottom left corner pink or any color you desire and let dry (paint a second coat if desired before taking the tape off)

  4. Take the tape off and paint the opposite sides white and let dry

  5. Lightly paint the child’s right hand and stamp it onto the right top corner (try a few practice stamps first on a separate paper)

  6. Lightly paint the left foot and stamp onto the canvas toes pointing outward and heel inward

  7. Paint the right food and connect the heels to the left foot and stamp the toes outward to the right

  8. See instructions for writing letters above

Getting started..

"Checkered Splatter Paint"

  1. Follow the instructions above for the checkered pattern directions (1-7)

  2. With white paint write the letters "L" and "E"

  3. Paint over the letters with one swipe of red

  4. With red paint write the letter "O"

Splatter time..

  1. On the top right and bottom left corners use red paint and white paint for the top left and bottom right corners

  2. Take a brush and dip it into the desired color; tap your paint brush onto the handle of another brush above the canvas to create the splatter design

  3. Do the same with the opposite color on the opposite corners

Notes for best results..

I found that masking tape is the best for this project. If you have any questions or concerns it would be my pleasure to help you! I'll let you in on a little secret. Sometimes my daughter's foot print does not stamp all the way. I suggest filling in the edges with a bit of paint where necessary. Finally, I had to do a few coats over the background and the letters.

I hope that you try this craft and have a great bonding time with your child(ren). All of us thought that the project was fairly easy and inexpensive!
